To edit the Meta Tags of a page:
The meta tags are snippets of text that provide information to search engines about the content of a page. The meta tags do not appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code.
1. Click on the page name at the left of the page tab.
2. Click on the Advanced Settings link in the Page Settings Bar.
3. Click on the Meta Tags tab.
4. Un-tick the Override Default checkbox for the meta tag you want to edit.
5. Enter the data for each of the meta tags:
• Page title: This title will appear in the browser tab and breadcrumb navigation. It will also appear in the search engine results. (The name of your store will be appended to the end of the page title).
The default page title is the name specified in the Page Name field in the Page Settings Bar.
To avoid truncation in search results, the page title should not exceed more than 70 characters including spaces and the appended store name.
• Meta keywords: A series of keywords that indicate what the topic of the page is. Separate the meta keywords with a comma (,).
The default meta keywords and descriptions are defined under your website store settings via SEO Tools > Keywords & Meta Data.
Note: Google does not recognize meta keywords as a factor in SEO ranking.
• Meta description: A brief description of the page. Search engines display this description in search results to let potential visitors know what your page is about. Meta descriptions can be any length, but search engines generally truncate the description to 160 characters, including spaces.
• Meta Index - Prevent search engines from indexing this page: This option lets you choose whether or not you want search engines to include the current page in search results and follow the links on your page.
Ticking the checkbox will include a "noindex" and a "nofollow" meta tag in the page's HTML code to prevent your page from appearing in the search engine's search results and to prevent links on your page from being followed.
Noindex is useful for preventing duplicate content, for directing traffic to relevant pages and keeping unimportant pages from coming up in the search results for your site, such as shopping cart or checkout pages. Nofollow prevents off-topic links from being followed, such as links in comments, paid links, links in guest posts, and other content that you don’t control.
The setting configured here sets the default for all instances of this page and all pages that this page may be categorized under.
6. Click OK.
7. Save and Publish the changes.
